April Shower of a Hodgepodge.

I'm so thankful for Joyce and her questions. There is always at least one that makes me think.....
1. April showers bring May flowers...what have you been showered with this month?
I have been showered with lots of love and attention. Hubby has been helping me with yard work, cleaning up after dinner, shopping and helping care for 4 teens that we had over the weekend who were part of  a Youth Rally weekend.  It has been wonderful.

2. What is the nature of compassion?  Is it learned or innate?  Can compassion belearned?  If you're a parent is this something you've purposely sought to instill in your children, and if so how?
See, I told you there is always one question that makes me think. I believe compassion is learned most of the time.  Sister's share especially when mom's and dad's share or encourage them to and then praise them for it.  Rewarded behavior gets repeated.  So if compassion is rewarded, then compassion will be repeated.

3. Do you prefer to watch romantic comedy or romantic drama...or are you rolling your eyes saying bring on the action flicks?
I really enjoy a good romantic comedy. I have a husband who makes me laugh every day so I love watching romantic movies that do the same thing.
One of my favorites

4.  It's April which means baseball season is officially upon us here in the US of A. Humphrey Bogart is quoted as saying "A hot dog at the ballgame beats roast beef at the Ritz." Agree or Disagree?
Well, I'm not a true sports fan but I've gone to a local professional minor league game and it was fun.  I like hot dogs so I'd say yes, I agree. I like the atmosphere at the ball game and all the fun that takes place so yeah, bring on the hot dog as well. Plus I don't have to dress up to eat!

5. What's something in your community or city that needs fixing or improving?
I think our schools need fixing. Not the buildings, but what they teach. Seems to me that they spend way too much time on tolerance and diversity,  politically correct speech, sex ed for 2nd graders, and what the parents pack for lunch and not enough time on reading, writing, math, history & science.  We are raising a generation of people who can only follow orders and are not able to think for themselves.

6. Share a song you enjoy that mentions flowers or a specific flower in its title.
I'm Looking Over A Four-Leaf Clover

7. April 22nd is Earth Day...do you believe there's life on other planets?  That wasn't the question you were expecting was it?
I'm not sure I believe in life on other planets, but I do believe in God and since He created life once, why not create life twice, or hundreds of times? Why limit Him to just once?

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Last weekend Hubby helped me get the family room ready for our company.  Hubby would dust, his tool of choice - the vacuum cleaner!  Men are so funny...especially mine!

  1. Let me see, if I recall this movie, I know I've seen it some time ago. Is this where he tries to help another guy in the field of romancing a gal?!! James something or other, I can't think of his name right now. But he was on a TV sit-com. Anyway, cute movie.

Showered with love, understanding, and helping in yard work?!! You're living life in a good way!!

    1. I know that I am blessed with my husband. He's a keeper. Yes, that's the movie, only the other man never does what he is told and wins the girl anyway.

  4. I love your answer to #5. If with God all things are possible, you have to believe that ALL things are possible!

I thunk my husband only has command of one appliance for cleaning too. He knows the vacuum cleaner attachments much better than I do! lol

    1. I would rather stay in jeans and a tee shirt if I could. So the choice was easy.

  7. I guess vacuuming makes dusting faster (& easier)! As long as it doesn't scratch the furniture!!!
    #5: AMEN!
I haven't heard that song in a loooong time!

  9. I love that quote from Bogart. I'd pick the ballgame hands down, I am not a Ritz kind of girl.

    1. After going to others blogs, there seem to be more ballgame ladies than Ritz gals. We are in good company.

  10. I totally agree with your thoughts on fixing our schools! It's past the point of being ridiculous.

Does dusting with the vacuum work? I should try it.

    1. Dusting with the vacuum does work plus you can get the cob webs down as well. He just started at one end of the room and worked around it. He was great! It was so funny.

  11. Argggghhhh....this is like the 4th time I've tried to leave a comment on your blog today! lol (grr to you blogger!!)

Sounds like you've got a very kind and thoughtful husband! I partly agree with the schools thing. I think more learning has to happen outside of schools. I think this has got better - I think back to what school was like in my Mum's generation when you weren't allowed to think. Can we ever teach enough about tolerance? Part of tolerance is learning History and Geography and understanding other people's situations. Like it makes me real sad that so many people can't name a Paralympian from their country but can list screeds of overpaid footballers, golfers and so on! And I'm so encouraged by some of the stories Joyce's daughter has been sharing about her high school experiences - this week about the Festival of Tolerance. Though I agree that political correctness goes way OTT at times. Drives me nuts!

Your husband's way of dusting looks like something mine would do!

    Amen on the school thoughts!

And I agree with you whole-heartedly on the hot dog at the ballpark....Any ole day!

    Have a great day, Lynn!

  13. Showered with love and attention is a good thing for sure! Hitch is great movie but I haven't watched in a long time. I think I will stream it from Netflix through Wii. I haven't heard that song in ages, great pick. That is pretty funny that your husband dusts with the vacuum!
