Spring is in the Air!

We may have over 2 feet of snow on the ground but Spring is definitely in the air.  How do I know?  Good question.

First, my spring allergies are in full bloom.  Allergies trigger my asthma so I'm using a lot of allergy meds to stop my sneezing, clear up my watery burning eyes and headache.  I love spring, even with the allergies.

Second, coyotes are out and around our home.  Just the other morning, I let the dogs out while it was still dark.  August started to run down the stairs to the back yard and then stopped and looked back at Becke.  Becke was on the deck, making herself as tall and wide as she could, staring into the back yard and not moving at all.  August turned around, came onto the deck, walked up to the grill and piddled on the grill cover.  August then came into the house, Becke then turned around and came in after him.  As I was closing the door, I heard the coyotes talking to each other.  They were very close, just behind our fence.  It's a scary sound and I'm so glad that neither dog made a sound and stayed close to the house.  YUP, Spring in the NH countryside.

Third, the skunks are out.  When we drive down the highway, we can smell them.  We can smell them on the roads. So far, the dogs have not been involved in anything that makes them smell.  I am thankful for that.  Spring.

So the day light gets longer and longer, the sun coming in the Windows feels good and warm. The air is still cold, the temps are in the 20's, and there is always the threat of more snow, but Spring is definitely in the air!
Achoo!!

  1. I thought I saw buds on the pear tree out front on Friday .. when I get back home today, I'll have to check. If so, that's a sign to me that spring is coming! ;-)

  4. A friend of mine in a nearby neighborhood had to call Animal Control last week because two enormous coyotes made their home under her deck. It was a problem. She posted the pics on facebook and some people said they looked like wolves, but in the end it was decided they were just very healthy coyotes. Keep an eye on your little dogs!

  5. Recently, we've had some coyotes close to our house, too--as well as skunks!
We won't even talk about the amount of pollen that's on my black car... Yep, spring is in the air!

  6. That's a couple of smart dogs you have there! Oh, I remember the smell of skunks on the road. Phewwww! Do you keep tomato juice handy for bathing the dogs - just in case?

  8. Down here in NC we have flowering trees (pear or dogwood, don't know which) already in full bloom. Neighborhood has exploded in color with yellow daffodils.

That said, we had a mix of wet snow and fine sleet this morning with freezing temps forecast for overnight tonight. Despite the trees and daffs blooming it feels cold, chilly, and raw today.

I remember when I lived in rural NH also hearing the coyotes howling behind our house. Luckily, they were far away on a mountain in the distance. We had to watch out for the bears coming into our yard, though. I don't miss the weather up north, but I sure do miss living in the country with the wildlife and beauty of nature all around me.

I'm sure Becke was on high alert ready to protect her baby brother from the coyotes behind your house. Happily, that wasn't necessary.

Here's hoping spring is on the way to your house, with no more snowfall for you! Soon you'll be digging in the dirt planting flowers and watching your bulbs come up.

    1. I remember you talking about bears up your way. YUCK, no bears here but it's still scary to hear the coyotes so close to the house. Becke is so good and August is good as well for listerning to her.

  9. Sorry about the allergies. That is pretty scary with the coyotes. I take Skye out on leash when it is evening or still dark in the morning.
