A TAXING Wednesday Hodgepodge

Joyce came up with some really great questions, why not play along with us and thank you Joyce.

1. April 15th is the deadline for Americans to file their state and federal income tax returns.  What's a job you do on a regular basis that could be described as 'taxing'?
Well at the moment, outside spring clean up seem a lot taxing.  The ground is still frozen and although the snow is finally gone, it's just hard to rake it and I guess we quit the fall clean up early because the front yard is just one HUGE mess.

2. I'm participating in the April A-Z blog challenge, and the Hodgepodge happens to fall on Day O this week. In keeping with that theme...olives, onions, oysters, okra...of the foods mentioned, what's your favorite O food?

Photo from Google

I love olives and eat them a lot.  Did you know that they can help fight cancers?

3.  What is something memorable you experienced as a child that your own children (or future children/nieces/nephews) will not get to experience?
Riding a bike late at night without helmet, pads or anything. These days, kids ride bikes with all sort of padding on and head lights as well. Once it gets dark all the kids come in. I loved riding my bike with the wind in my hair, something my grandchildren will not know.

My bike looked very much like this.

4. Term limits for our elected officials...your thoughts?
YES! Get them in, get them out, have them live by the rules they pass.  No life time job, no life time retirement.

5. On April 18th, 1775, Paul Revere made his famous 'midnight ride'...when did you last make a midnight ride?  Perhaps the fate of a nation wasn't hanging in the balance, but tell us where you were headed anyway.
I wish I could stay awake till midnight! Those days are long gone so I really don't remember at all. Sorry all.

6.  What would freak you out more...a mouse running across your floor or a big fat hairy spider?
How about a big fat hairy spider chasing a mouse.  Ewwwwww

7. I love it when people ask me________________________?
How many years have you been married?  You can't be a grandmother, you're too young, how many grand kids do you have?  How long have you been a Christian?

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Today is Hubby's Birthday.  He is my rock, my friend, my husband. He asked me to marry him 3 times before I said yes.  He stayed with me even though my mother tried to poison him. You can read that story here. He has stayed with me through over 40 years of kids, family, sickness and moves.  He keeps his sense of humor no matter what and I wish him the best Birthday he has ever had.  Won't you go on over to his Blog and Wish him a Happy Birthday?  I love you Babe!

  1. I remember those carefree days of jumping on my bike and riding for what seemed hours with no helmet...did they even sell them back then? We didn't have to worry about steering clear of "bad people", either. Life sure was simpler in those days. Wishing your hubby a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY today!

  2. I used to ride without a helmet if it was in the countryside and all grassy! But I do get so mad when I see people riding their bike in the road without wearing a helmet. They do save lives. Or at night with no lights or reflective clothing on. Grrr.

    Happy birthday to your husband!!!

  3. Happy birthday to your husband. I wouldn't want to ride a bike these days without a helmet and all of the gadgets.

  4. I'm going to write about the safety gear we give our kids for one of my A-Z posts...it's not all bad : ) Happy birthday to your hubs! You two have birthdates close together.

  5. I agree with your thoughts on many of questions today!

Isn't it funny how we all rode bikes without helmets and such, and survived?! I don't know a single person who died from not wearing a helmet.

I hope your hubby has a happy birthday!

  7. Aww, Happy Birthday to you husband! I hope he has the best one ever.

Huge 100% agree on term limits. That seems like a no-brainer but I don't think we'll get it.

  8. Oh my gosh, that bike looks like the one I had growing up! It had a little bell on the left-side handle bar. A very Happy Birthday to your hubby! I hope he has a great day celebrating!

  10. I never thought about bikes and riding without helmets. Love that!

    Happy Birthday to your hubby.

  11. My nieces never really rode bikes after tricycles. But the entire idea of knee pads and helmets for bike riding, yeesh! I never wore any protective gear to ride my bike and I rode my bike a LOT. When I think about all of the safety stuff kids are required to wear now, it's no wonder they'd rather sit in front of the TV than be outside.

    Enjoy celebrating with your husband!

  12. We used to ride our bikes all day long. I too loved the wind blowing through my hair as I rode. We would ride all over the neighborhood. We lived in a rural area where the houses were not close and the roads are long and winding so we got wonderful exercise by riding.
I love olives and eat them quite often. I have bitten into one with a pit inside, it can be hard on your teeth.

  13. I agree that your leaf raking seems taxing. Like your reference to the bicycle. Those were the days.
A very Happy Birthday to your hubby!

  14. Hey Lynn Marie,

That was fun reading your answers! I remember riding my bike, just like you, without helmets or any of that stuff, all over my neighborhood and riding with my feet up on the handlebars or even riding my cousins on the handlebars! lol!

Happy belated birthday to your hubby!

    Have a great weekend!
