Allergies: Plan of Attack- or is it Attack the Plan!

I have "Seasonal Allergies". That is what my doctor calls them. I have no idea what I'm allergic to because I have never had the "needles-on-the-back/arm-or-any-other-place" test.  I show up at the doctor with my eyes watering and itchy, scratchy throat, and sometimes a hoarse voice and complain that I can't sleep because I can't stop sneezing in multiples you know - (just can't sneeze once and be done with it- Not Me). He gives me a prescription for Nasonex and tells me to also get Claritin. So I take both -- every day. Now I suffer all year mind you, so this is not just a Spring thing. Then this happened:

It's just on my thumb and it itches, oozes, burns, and is spreading so back to the doctor I went, only to be told it's an allergic reaction to something. You've got to be kidding!  On just the thumb? What gets on just a thumb?  His 1st thought was I was pulling weeds and something bit me back. Sounds plausible but I wear gloves to weed. His 2nd thought was there may be something inside the gloves, wash them. Again sounds plausible but since hubby got bit last year by a recluse spider and his leg blew up 3 times the size it should have been, I did wash the garden gloves before I wore them, --all 4 pairs because you never know where a spider is hiding all winter. Just saying. OK so his 3rd thought is to toss out all the garden gloves, go buy new ones, wash them and then try again.  Oh, and get a third allergy medicine that is a lot stronger (and will make me sleepy so don't take it and drive) and a steroid cream to dry out my thumb.  OK then Hubby, I am under doctors orders to go shopping!  I will get my allergy meds, my cream, wash the new gloves, and fall asleep as soon as the meds hit the blood steam. Sounds like a plan except I don't think a lot of weeding will get done if I'm asleep. Still, it's better than anything related to Winter because Winter up here last a very L---O----N----G time.  Any one have allergy issues?

  1. I have developed, over the last 3-4 years, seasonal allergies. Thankfully I haven't had anything break out on my thumb. Hopefully your thumb will clear up and you can cut back on your allergy meds ... so you can get out and clear weeds. Have a great Thursday!

  3. Wow! What a story. I hope your thumb is feeling better and it has not spread to any other part of your body. I don't have allergies. I used to struggle with breast infections.
Thanks for checking in for the 400 mile fitness challenge. I will see if I can go back and find your post about last week's challenge and leave a comment. Keep up the good work! I look forward to hearing how you did this week.

  4. that is interesting that it is only your thumb that reacted like this! I hope the doctor's remedy/meds does the trick to clear things up. Thankfully, thank you Lord, no allergies here! I hear people are just miserable when it is their "season".
