Weekend Review:Spring Cleaning

Saturday morning it was 37 degrees. That was a whole lot warmer than we have had in a long time. So I bundled up, opened the windows and the slider door and turned off the heat for an hour. August loved sitting in the window still watching the cars go by, and squirrels running.  I pulled all the remaining winter decorations and piled them on the table. Then took out the spring/summer ones and began placing them where I thought they looked good.  It was a joyous morning. Hubby was out of the house so I cranked up music and went to town.  It felt good to say goodbye to all the dark winter items and sick germs that have been in this house for months Instead I now see bright colors and the air is fresh.

Gone are snowmen and winter candle bird stand - Now we have

Summer bird houses and a spring tree.

Outside our front door where this snowman once stood to welcome in friends

We now have this bright an and sunny sign with butterflies on it.  Did you know that Butterflies are the new decoration for this year? I love butterflies, don't you?

After an hour, the slider was closed and the windows were shut and we bundled up under a blanket and took a nap.

Sunday I was up for a few hours before I looked outside and saw this:

Really? It's don't look like much but it's on top of this:

YUP, we still have a whole lot of the white stuff and we had a few days of drizzily freezing rain so there is a crust on top of the snow.  Frozen snow is hard to move through and with a soft layer of fresh powder, it's becomes slippery.  So Winter is still with us but I don't care----- I'm inside looking at this.
We had a great worship service on Sunday morning and another great time at small group Sunday evening. In between I worked on some more cards, took a nap and got ready for the work week.

How about you? What did you do?

  1. It's funny, your highs are more like our lows--and we're freezing, while you're opening the windows! I guess it's all about what you're used to :) It's supposed to be up to 70 tomorrow, then back into the 50's on Wednesday. Enough already! Bring on spring...

    1. So glad you are getting up in the 70's, how nice!! I'd even take your 50's.... I'm hoping that Mother Nature gets the hint!

  2. Maybe if we all clean and pull out the warm weather decorations Mother Nature will take the hint!?! Probably not, but it feels good to try.

I plan to begin the spring cleaning this week. I hope by Saturday you can still tell I cleaned. I have a few "tornados" that destroy faster then I can clean. :)

    1. Yes, you have a few Tornados at your house that will make your cleaning look like you never did it. I have a husband and 2 dogs that help in that department but when our granddaughters show up - oh my the house!!!

  3. You open windows when it's 37? I might, just might, open windows when it's 67 but more likely when it's 77. Our thermostat is set at 70 (which is a good 2-3 degrees higher than I'd like, budgetwise), and I'm sitting here in a pair of sweats, with a t-shirt under the sweatshirt, a fleece jacket on top, and a hooded sweatshirt on top of that ... and I'm just barely comfortable. No way I could stand having windows open when it's 37. ;-)

Hope you get some melting SOON!

    1. Hay 37 is a LONG way UP from -21 and that was what we had for a long time. Plus it was only an hour and then the windows were shut, the slider was closed and the heat went back on! Still the air was fresh and crisp and all the sick germs were blown out of the house. It is what one gets use to I guess. I hope you warm up soon.

  6. It's been getting down to the mid 60s here in Florida and we act like it's freezing...lol.

We've had the heater on for the past few nights as it's dipped down to the 40s when the sun goes down....I still don't miss the snow, though.

  8. I've turned into such a weenie since moving south I don't even think about opening a window unless it's 60 degrees out.

Today is sunny and chilly (in the 40s )but dry for a change, so I'm going to open a couple of windows right now and let the fresh air in here too. We had light flurries Saturday morning but nothing stuck. I heard that our light snow wreaked havoc at Charlotte Airport on Saturday morning with flights. Clearly, I'm not the only weather wimp around these parts.

Happily, those flurries didn't cancel a dog seminar I went to with a friend and my little dog. It was an Intro to Tellington Touch - very interesting and more complicated than I expected. I've got a lot to learn about this technique.

Lynn, I've known you for 100 years now, and I still don't know how you have the energy to redecorate your home as often as you do - I never cease to be amazed and impressed by you.Your home always looks warm and inviting, whatever the season.

By the way, August looks very handsome in his window perch. What a beautiful boy he's grown into!

    1. Anu,
Thank you for the kind words and yes we have been friends that long!! I took the Tellington Touch seminar a long time ago and forgot about all of it but it was very interesting and would love to do that again. I think that Becke would really benefit from it. I'm so glad you got to go to it. Hope you share your info on your newletter.

    1. I was at a store the other day looking at spring decorations and there were tons of Butterflies. We do have another "storm" coming in on Thursday-Friday. I hope it blows out to sea....

    1. My motivation comes in spurts so it's often short lived. I still have a few rooms to do but it will be done soon I hope.
