Reaching Toward Heaven in 2011: Study & Prayer

Photo from Clip Art

Last week I mentioned to you that I was working on reaching towards a better me.  Reaching towards getting closer to God so that I can see what He wants me to see to do what he He wants me to do. I believe that to do that I need to once again read the bible from beginning to end. After all I claim to be a Christian, and I should read the book every day and study it to find it's truth.

Every year I start reading the bible every day with the goal of reading all the way through in a year.  I've done that in the past but sadly I didn't do it last year so I'm trying again. I have downloaded the One Year Bible and so I have it with me all the time.  I want to reach as a individual and become a daily bible reader, not just a weekly bible ready.

I also want to be a person who prays more for others.  I spend many hours in prayer but I confess that most of the time, I end up praying for what I think are my needs. Truth be told, I have no real needs. I have a Hubby that loves me and cares for me. I have a warm comfortable home with food to eat and clothes to wear. I have a car that runs and a job to go to daily that contributes to the bills. I have a God who lovers me and cares for me and yet I find myself in prayer for myself! God has put that behavior on my heart this past week and so I now write down all the others that really do need prayers. I pray for our very pregnant daughter who is very tired and in a lot of pain from the pressure of this newest little one. I pray for the members of our church with cancer. I pray for our military keeping us safe. I pray for the young man who fell and broke his leg, the marriage in trouble, the woman who needs heat at her home and for the others that I see and hear about before I mention me.  Then, after I have prayed for them all, I realize just how blessed I am and I thank God for my live, my salvation, my blessing, and my future.  I want to be a person who see what she has and knows Who to thank.
So that is what I'm doing to reach toward heaven.  How is your week going? What are you reaching for?

  1. I am trying to read thru the Bible this year too. I'm reading in chronological order which is something different for me. One thing I read somewhere, a tip if you will, is not to be so strict with myself on the where/when. I sometimes get caught up in saying I need to read at this time, from this version, in this room, etc. I am learning to say just read and if you're standing at the kitchen counter or sitting in the car doing it that's okay too.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. I joined the "Operation Actually Read The Bible" challenge this year and so far so good. I'm also doing the Daily Guideposts 2011 Spirit-Lifting Devotional.

I'm going to check out the One Year Bible and maybe do it next year.

  3. I am reading the One Year Chronological Bible. I have never read any part of the bible before so it is all new to me. I am enjoying it so far but we are only 17 days into the challenge! Good Luck to you! I have taken a day or two to really think about the content but I have managed to catch back up to speed. It's been enjoyable! Good Luck!
