Making Your Home a Haven: Simplify

I want to join Monica today on Making your Home a Haven.  I find that I feel at peace, and have a sense of living in a Haven when things are simple.  I long to have my life simplified.

Simple things are beautiful things.
Get the clutter off the table and set out simple place mats over a table cloth. To me it looks inviting and even if it is just Hubby and I, the table looks ready to invite more.
Lit candles in a dark nook add a soft glow to that nook.
Candles add to any seasonal decorations, and the smell of them can add to the meal. Pumpkin candles really add to the meal when dessert is pumpkin pie, don't you think?
And how many of you reminder the Fly Lady tip to "Shine your sink" before you go to bed? There is just something about walking into the kitchen and the sink is shinning back at you, welcoming you into the "Hub of the Home"

All simple ideas to make your home a haven.  How do you make your home special for the special people living there?

  1. Great ideas! Lighting candles is one of my favorite things to do. There is something about the wonderful smell and warm glow that makes me happy, happy, happy!

  2. One of the things I did when we moved into this house 3 years ago was simplify. I got rid of a lot of the clutter and excess and am trying to remember that "less is more". And I agree on the placemats ... not only does it look inviting but it helps discourage dumping of "stuff" onto the table. ;-)

  4. Good ideas you have. I love candles burning too and I also burn them in my office at work. Love it.

One of my favorite things right now is in our living room we have a big book shelf and on top of it I have the buildings from our light-up Christmas village. I leave them out and lit year round. Just something about sitting there in the evening watching TV and crocheting and looking up at those lights that makes me happy.

  5. I love the candles! And now I want to get some pumpkin candles to go along with my Halloween decorations, how perfect. I love the smell of pumpkin anyway.

I've been working on trying to get rid of all the clutter in my place. It really is nice to come home and see no clutter anywhere!

  6. I like your idea about the table devoid of clutter and full of placemats; looks very inviting! Unfortunately, I'm living in a place where I have no control over making it special for others; very frustrating; have no sense of belonging or ever wanting to call it home.....
