Welcome to Life Through Bifocals

Life is not always clear and easy to figure out. So grab a cup of coffee and your bifocals and let's see what we can see.

What encourages you? What motivates you? When you start a diet, don't you love it when someone says " Hey looking good!" Or "Looks like you need to go shopping that dress is too big!"

What about starting a new job and you hear "Well done today, your learning this job fast!" We all like to be motivated and encouraged to continue on or to keep at it.

Sometimes we seek it out. I've been known to call my cousin "Cuz" I call her and ask "What are you cooking for dinner?" in the hope that it will encourage me to cook something similar (sometimes it does just that, too, so thanks Cuz). I have even stooped so low as to invite people over for dinner knowing it will motivate me to clean my house. Yes I will use my friends like that! Makes you want to be invited over doesn't it.

When I started this blog I knew I was writing for myself mainly and that some people may look at it. I have a side bar that shows me when people look at the blog and even if they don't leave a comment, they took the time to stop by. That encourages me. Some people know me, and talk to me at Church, or at work. All of that encourages me. Hubby reads the blog and tells me he likes it. That encourages me.

But those are worldly things. The things that take up our day. What about spiritual things? When your day is dreary, your load is heavy, your night is long, do you have someone to call like my "Cuz"? Do you have someone to invite into your life to pray with or cry with? I hope you do. How about a bible verse? Do you have a favorite? My favorite is Romans 8:28.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

It doesn't matter what the "thing" is, fill in the blank- "And we know that in "my job as a homemaker" God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

Or maybe this: And we know that in all "Lack of money", God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Or even this: And we know that in "The fact that I don't have a job and been unemployed for a year" God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Now that's encouragement we can all use! How about you? What is your favorite verse and how do you find encouragement or motivation?

  1. Hello Lynn:

I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy reading your blog.

I live in San Diego, California, so it is great to read about the 4 seasons there where you are at. I lived in in Iowa for 12 years (1988 - 2000) and sure miss all of the seasons. Here in San Diego we have 2 -- hot and cooler.

Your Cauliflower, Sausage and Cheese soup looks so yummy!

And I love the way you are decorating your home.

As for a favorite verse in the Bible, I have so many. Here is a good one that I like, this is from The Everyday Bible translation: "Be full of joy in the Lord always. I will say again, be full of joy." Philippians 4:4.

    Blessings:

    Donna - p.s. I wear bifocals, too!

  2. Donna,
Thank you so much for stopping and especially leaving a comment. I know that people are busy and often stop by and read but don't leave a comment. I've done that myself on others blogs but--seening a comment makes my heart smile. So your comment and your verse filled me with joy.If you want, come winter I can mail you snow! We get so much the town has to truck it out and it ends up in the ocean! We are always looking for ways to get rid of it. :-) Thanks again and come back anytime.

  3. Hi Lynn:

I just tried to post this comment, but it seems to not want to complete the posting, so I will try again. I hope it doesn't post twice now!

That is so funny about you mailing me the snow! I would love it!!! We live about 45 minutes from an old mining town called Julian that is up in the Laguna Mountians here. IF they get snow, it seems half of San Diego County flocks to them, so we usually stay home.

It is one thing to visit snow up in the mountains, and something entirely different to shovel it out of your own driveway! Personally, I used to love to shovel it off the sidewalks, etc, for the 12 years I lived in Iowa. Maybe because growing up I didn't have snow!

I have never been to New Hampshire, but someday would like to visit. In my head I am imagining that you have lots of trees around you and that they are gorgeous now with the fall season.

    Enjoy your day!

    Blessings from San Diego:

    Donna
